The Gemini offshore wind farm – with a total capacity of 600 MW – is one of the largest wind farms in the world, both in terms of size as in annual energy production. Gemini is located in the Dutch part of the North Sea, about 85 km offshore, north of the island Schiermonnikoog, and is not visible from shore. Its location is characterized by the highest and most constant wind speeds in the North Sea. Gemini is built in two nearby locations, which is also the reason for its name (Gemini = twins). The official names of the two offshore wind farms are Buitengaats and ZeeEnergie. Mostly based from its
office in Amsterdam, but sometimes also from location in the North of the Netherlands, the Gemini team is responsible for the operation of this important renewable asset for the Dutch electricity supply.
